Advancing Sustainable Water and Economic Management in Africa
Welcome to the Water and Production in Africa research unit at the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town! Our unit is dedicated to advancing understanding of the complex relationship between water resources and economic production in Africa.
As the world's population continues to grow and climate change exacerbates water scarcity, the importance of sustainable water management has never been greater. Africa is particularly vulnerable to water stress, and the continent's economic development is closely tied to its ability to use and manage its water resources effectively.
Our research focuses on the ways in which water resources impact economic production in Africa, including agriculture, industry, and energy. We also examine how economic activity in turn affects water resources, through activities such as irrigation and dam building.
Our team of economists, engineers, and other experts work together to address key issues in water resource management and economic development, both through theoretical and applied research.
We also actively engage with policy makers, NGOs, and the private sector to ensure that our research informs real-world decisions and promotes sustainable water and economic management in Africa.
Thank you for visiting our website, please feel free to explore our research and publications. and get in touch with us if you have any questions or would like to collaborate.
